So I just let things go for the year.  Today is Australia day and the 2011 hundred is done and I want to listen through it but I can’t bring myself to do it without completing what began ages ago. It’s going to be a faster version that I’ve done in the past but that’s all good, as long as I make it to this year’s soon enough.

90: Art vs Science - Finally See Our Way

The thing that first strikes me about this one is that it seems so chill compared to their other songs that I’ve heard through the hundred the last time around.  The song I really don’t mind except for that chintzy little keys solo towards the end.  It actually kinda put me off the rest of the song.  Still a thumbs up because at the end I was enjoying it for most of the time.

89: Interpol - Barricade

I have an old Interpol album lying around at home but I haven’t played it in what seems like an age because every time I heard it I felt sad and depressed.  So I listened to this one with an old bias and I was enjoying the build up and I actually liked the song, but I had a nagging feeling that it was a sad song again.  I think it’s his voice, it’s not a bad song but I’m not sure I’m ever in the right mood to have him bring me down.

88: Kanye West - Monster

Today is not a good day for existing bias, I think Kanye is a tool and well most of the music in American hip hop is not for me.  I can see this being a good club mix but if you’ve read this blog in the past you know how fond I am of club music.  No that’s it I just heard something about having sex with a Pharaoh and putting lady parts in a sarcophagus.  This “song” is a joke, he’s got other stuff that I don’t hate but this is not working, game off!

87: Birds of Tokyo - The Saddest Thing I Know

Well if Interpol’s song got me down earlier this one is just punishing me again.  I’ve never been the biggest fan of these guys and I don’t know why.  The song itself is pretty good if I’m being objective but I just feel compounding sadness which is really ruining my afternoon so I say no go for me today.  Sorry Birds of Tokyo I guess we still don’t shoot hoops.

86: Evil Eddie - Queensland

Okay I already know I’m going to like this one I have a soft spot for Butterfingers because you gotta love guys from Brisbane.  Eddie doesn’t disappoint and well helps turn my afternoon around from 3 songs in a round trying to bring me down.  I’m also a Queenslander so a song written about home will get me smiling when I am so far from there.  A little Aussie hip hop never hurt anyone either.  Good finish to this one!

Well I’m not going to make any promises on so many songs in so many days but I am going to rush myself through 2010 to get to 2011 as soon as possible.  Good finish to this lot but I hope the songs get better.

86: Evil Eddie - Queensland

87: Birds of Tokyo - The Saddest Thing I Know

88: Kanye West - Monster

89: Interpol - Barricade

90: Art vs Science - Finally See Our Way

Wow so I set the file aside to finish the 5 extra songs later then I completelt forgot about it till just now!  Sorry about that, I’m sad that it is only the second week of this and I have already fallen behind.  Anyways delay no more, here is week 2:

95: Broken Bells - The High Road

I have never heard of these guys before so I am always a little excited to press play.  That intro is weirdly engaging, I mean somewhat annoying but it made me listen and wonder what was coming next.  It’s pretty simple and laid back, and I think it has found me in the right mood for music to chill to.  This song isn’t anything special but it is a good listen and I noticed that I didn’t really pay much attention to the lyrics which was weird for me.  I am consciously avoiding any and all uses of the songs title in these thoughts today, that’s a little too corny, so thumbs up to Broken Bells.

94: Xavier Rudd - Time to Smile

Hello Xavier!  It’s been too long since your music has graced my ears.  The title of this song makes it sound like it could be 1970’s church music but it is decidedly not.  It has a “world music” vibe about it which is not really suprising from Xavier but it’s a little different from what I was expecting.  I think I mean that it feels like he wrote it while sitting on a beach in Fiji, that would make more sense.  Honestly it’s a little boring, I mean the music is somewhat fun but I am far from under the influence of any substance so this is not capturing my attention in any way.  Fun at first but meh by then end.

93: The National - Anyone’s Ghost

These guys are another new band for me, I feel like I might have read the name somewhere but I don’t think I’ve heard them.  First impression is they sound like Interpol but they might actually be happy.  I don’t really like Interpol so I’m not really going out of my mind needing to get this bands album or anything.  I’m pretty relaxed today so it sort of got me tapping my toes but at the same time I think I might have been keeping the beat for something to do while the song played.  Harsh but fair, not a big fan.  Have I started this whole process too negative?  I don’t think I have liked too much so far.

92: LCD Soundsystem - I Can Change

Wow, immediantly I close my eyes and imagine myself inside a NES or Master System game.  Alex in miracle world anyone?  Yeah and there is where it kinda stays for the rest of the song.  The chorus is a little more fun but music wise this song is boring despite how old school game it may sound.  I think the lyrics are sad and somewhat hopeless.  Whatever happened to this guys relationship it sounds to me that it didn’t end well.  Either way I noticed that by the end I was actually enjoying this one more and more, maybe it’s a grower.  For today it’s okay, not the greatest but still alright.

91: The Bedroom Philosopher - Northcote (So Hungover)

I’m interested to see what comes from this guy since I liked that I’m so post modern one from a few years back but never investigated further.  So for the first minute I was wondering when the song was going to start then I realised what was going on.  I had to laugh at myself, I should have known better.  It’s funny but it would only be half as good if I didn’t have the youtube clip to match.  I guess it’s a pretty decent social comment on hipsters, who are somewhat the scurge of the earth.  Although I used to go to jb and flip through the indie section……Noooooooooo, am I a hipster?  Regardless of dramatic screams it’s a fairly decent song.

Now to the forgotten section, Last.fm has changed the way it works and I might have to pay for it now so if any of you guys know of a streaming service like last.fm that isn’t Pandora, please let me know.

  • Local Natives - World News
  • The Beautiful Girls - La Mar
  • The Tallest Man on Earth - Honey Won’t You Let Me In

Well finally got this out there didn’t I?  Favourites for the week go to Broken Bells and the Local Natives.  Week 2 is finally complete…..now to whatever joys and wonders week three brings us.
